About James Smillie

James is a former Royal Shakespeare Company actor and West End leading man in both dramatic roles and musicals.

He is widely known as Dr Dan Marshall in the blockbuster TV series ‘Return to Eden’ and the cult tv show ‘Prisoner Cell Block H”.

You will have heard his voice as Justice Computer in ‘Red Dwarf’.
So even if you don’t recognise his face, you will have heard his voice on countless radio,TV commercials, documentary narrations cinema, online, gaming and audiobooks.

In the past 5 years James has Award nominations in 30 categories - winning on 12 occasions and is the current record holder for the most awards won at the One Voice Awards since they started.

In 2024 James won the Best Overall Performance TV/Promo at the One Voice Awards for voicing CNN’s Call to Earth Day.

2023 saw James being voted Voiceover Artist of the Year at the prestigious One Voice Awards 2023 along with Best Radio Commercial and Best Gaming.

This was following his 2022 success at the Vox Awards which saw him win Voiceover of the Year, Judges Choice and Best Visual Ad Campaign.

In 2021 James won Best Character Voice (Vox), Best Demo Reel (OVA) and narration for Goblin Stone at the Devgamm Indie Game Awards.
